Robotics Students Shine
We’re celebrating a HUGE
weekend for Hockaday robotics and STEM engagement!
This weekend, 32 students from the Classes
of 2032–2034 competed across seven FIRST LEGO League (FLL)
teams, nine students from the Classes of 2030–2031
competed on our Middle School FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team,
and members of our Upper School FTC team were also in
competition. Hockaday women are truly representing in the North
Texas robotics scene!
The competitions also wrapped up Hockaday’s first Daisy Afternoons FLL Robotics class, a tremendous success. Students spent the semester engineering, coding, prototyping, problem-solving, and collaborating.
At the Adamson High School Qualifier, all seven all-rookie FLL teams performed beautifully, with several earning awards:
• Robot Design Award – Team 60710 The Rocks (HockaRocks): Chelsea G. (Class of 2032), Jane Elizabeth G. (Class of 2033), Gabby C. (Class of 2032), Eliott S. (Class of 2034), Libertad P. (Class of 2033)
• Motivate Award – Team 72437 Cwabby Coders: Tavishi S. (Class of 2033), Brooklyn W. (Class of 2033), Sophie H. (Class of 2032), Malina D. (Class of 2034), Mia E. (Class of 2034)
• Rising All-Star Award – Team 60711 Smiling Hockadaisies: Sara D. (Class of 2032), Yutsuki S. (Class of 2034), Aneeka B. (Class of 2032), Annette D. (Class of 2034)
• Breakthrough Award – Team 60712 RoboRaccoons: Calista J. (Class of 2034), Amara D. (Class of 2034), Nousheen S. (Class of 2033)
• Engineering Excellence Award – Team 72436 Error 404: Mei S. (Class of 2033), Natalie T. (Class of 2033), Lilian T. (Class of 2032), Elle L. (Class of 2034), Sophie K. (Class of 2034)
Meanwhile, our Upper School FTC team, 9626 Hockabots, competed in their first qualifier of the season, ranking 9th out of 31 teams, advancing to playoffs, and earning 2nd Place for the Sustain Award, recognizing excellence in long-term team impact, leadership, and sustainability.
